The scoop: Over 7,000 convicted pedophiles have served less than a year in California prisons in violation of sentencing guidelines, according to crime data analyzed by the Daily Mail. The report found that the average sentence is 2 years and 10 months.

What’s driving this? Prosecutors blame Gov. Gavin Newsom’s policies that allow the shortening of sentences, as well as the lack of prosecution from the George Soros-funded Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón. The Democratic leaders’ actions are part of a broader progressive movement to “reform” the criminal justice system by reducing the prison population.

Some of the worst cases: There were 365 people convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child, 39 who sodomized children, and 3 who kidnapped children “with intent” to molest them who served less than a year in prison. One who continuously abused a child served a mere two days plus probation.

Hiding the data: The California state government removed the search function on its sex offender database after being questioned by the Daily Mail and refused to provide a copy of the data.

Big picture: California’s reform efforts are making the state more dangerous. There are 12 percent more listed sex offenders in California since 2019, and years’ worth of nationwide statistics show that these offenders are highly likely to keep committing sex crimes once released.
