Fact-Checking White House Claims on the Border Crisis

Written by Hudson Crozier

Why are so many allowed to cross the border? White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre claimed the situation is “not that simple” and that they aren’t merely “walking across the border.” In reality, hundreds of thousands of border crossers have evaded law enforcement completely, and multiple videos show hordes traveling unbothered.

Why isn’t President Joe Biden stopping the influx of fentanyl? While Jean-Pierre admitted that fentanyl is being trafficked over the border and killing hundreds of thousands of Americans, she claimed that Republicans aren’t willing to “work with” the Biden administration to fix the problem. Federal and state GOP leaders, however, have called on Biden in efforts to fix the issue. Biden hasn't responded to their proposals.

Why aren’t migrants required to vaccinate? The reporter asked why illegal aliens are exempt from Biden’s executive order requiring foreign travelers—like tennis player Novak Djokovic—to vaccinate before entering the country. Jean-Pierre falsely claimed that the CDC is in charge of COVID rules for travelers. In reality, the agency only provides suggestions for public health measures.

Big picture: Biden’s policies have allowed the worst border crisis in U.S. history to flourish. Since his inauguration, nearly 4 million migrants have entered the country illegally—nearly the size of Los Angeles in terms of population. His administration has consistently denied that this is happening or shifted blame for the crisis.
